The Trois-Rivières Tales
When spring arrives once more to touch the land
and stirs emotion with her welcome hand…
Thus begins this solo mock epic in verse, inspired by Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. But this isn’t medieval England and we’re not travelling to Canterbury. Instead, three university students in a beater Ford Pinto are headed from Vancouver to Trois-Rivières, Quebec for a government-funded course in French. When their car breaks down and rides are scarce, the three hatch a storytelling contest to try and lure drivers to stop.
I premiered the show at the Victoria Fringe Festival in 2014 then reprised it in Vancouver and Salt Spring Island in 2017.
